I have the 100 L macro lens. It has a noisy IS system in it. So it makes it easy to know if IS on running or not. With playback and menu on IS stops. This makes sense. Whenever you are looking through the lens it is nicer to have the image stabilized. There is no purpose to running IS when in the menus or in play back. 4K video is reasonably detailed, but not outstanding. Applying electronic stabilization significantly lowers quality. It has two IS settings, standard and enhanced. For hand-held video, I use the standard setting along with the 24-105 IS STM lens.
